What is phonics?
Phonics teaches children how letters and groups of letters match the sounds we say. Once a child knows the sounds, they can blend them to read new words on their own and break words into sounds to spell them.
It is the strongest first step towards reading, and it also helps with pronunciation, spelling and confidence in speaking.
